NY Times : Nuclear Anxieties in a New World

I remember very clearly listening to Ideas one night during the year that the Berlin Wall came down. The narrator was reflecting on the fact that suddenly he could imagine living beyond the short-term; that the possibility of a life fulfilled was real and possible.
