Steve Rothman : The Publication of [John Hersey's] Hiroshima in the New Yorker

"TO OUR READERS The New Yorker this week devotes its entire editorial space to an article on the almost complete obliteration of a city by one atomic bomb, and what happened to the people of that city. It does so in the conviction that few of us have yet comprehended the all but incredible destructive power of this weapon, and that everyone might well take time to consider the terrible implications of its use. I am so unbelievably happy to be back in Montréal.

Still, there are a few things that have been troubling me since my return. mural The first is my inability to find short stubby pine nuts. All I ever find here are the semi translucent, anorexic nuts that smell like Plastecine. My other anxiety is the growing number of stores that insist on wrapping *all* their fresh vegetables in plastic wrap. Can someone explain the reason for wrapping string beans in plastic?! see also : Mr. Cucumber
