Piers Brendon : Gospel of Urbanity

"From his reporters he demanded facts, facts, facts — about skyscraper mail chutes, the fake-fur racket, "kosher Coca Cola." He employed the kind of fact-checker said to have "a mind like a steel mousetrap and a heart like a twelve-minute egg."" I miss The New Yorker of old; it was the only mainstream magazine that ever seemed to publish articles or interviews of any real depth. Sure, maybe you didn't care to read 120 pages about penguins or an equally lengthy profile of executive X, but it was the attention to detail that I valued.
